Danielle Mixon, LCSW
I founded Haven Therapy & Consulting because I’m passionate about providing individual services that act as antidotes for the negative effects of traumatic experiences and building community systems that safeguard against harm.
CLINICAL BACKGROUND: I’m a clinical social worker, licensed in the state of New York, with more than a decade of experience providing therapy to children and adults. I have worked with hundreds of people from diverse communities in a variety of settings. Providing appropriate care for trauma survivors as they courageously tend to the impact of their most painful experiences is one of my greatest privileges.
PROGRAMATIC & CONSULTING BACKGROUND: In addition to providing services to individuals, I have designed, developed, and managed community-based therapeutic and social-emotional programs. As a director-level consultant, I led or oversaw project teams working with client organizations seeking to improve their community’s ability to understand, prevent, or respond to sexual harassment and abuse.
EDUCATION: After earning an MSW from Columbia University, I obtained a certificate in Integrated Trauma Studies by completing a two-year program at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy.
I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is one therapeutic intervention designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. I’m also trained in Inference-Based CBT for OCD which equips people with knowledge and skills to understand, notice, and then detach from obsessive doubt without requiring direct exposure. I have over 35 hours of trauma-specific training, and I've completed 36 hours of a Racial Justice & Liberatory Practice training.
I'm committed to the ongoing study of trauma work, evidenced-based support for people experiencing the impact of trauma and OCD, telehealth best practices, trauma-informed systems, and inclusive approaches. The lessons I've learned through others' willingness to be vulnerable with me in therapy are as influential to the way I work as my formal education.
